Old Kingdom Egypt. King Djoser (Zoser), 2668-2649 BC

Old Kingdom Egypt, c. 2668-2649 BC. Large blue-green faience wall tile. Back with a heiroglyphic indicator at top, holed where it would have been attached to the wall in ancient times. Old Kingdom Egypt, c. 2668-2649 BC. Bright blue faience wall tile. Back with a heiroglyphic indicator (at bottom in photo), holed where it would have been attached to the wall in ancient times. Light chipping around edges, otherwise intact and very nice with great color. 60x38 mm (2 3/8" x 1 1/2") and thick. Great blue-green faience tile. With rear piercing on back for mounting in a central, raised area. They are frequently attributed to the Step Pyramid of Djoser and the surrounding complexes in Saqqara. Dimensions: 60x38mm. Chipped in areas. Glaze a bit faded. Cf. F.
