Each fragment is still flexible and soft... true testament to the longevity incorporated in the burial practices of the ancients. Ex-Upstate New York collection.
Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom, 2040-1786 BC
Very rare linen mummy-wrapping fragments. Recovered from Middle Kingdom Egyptian tombs near Aswan, Upper Egypt. Beautiful dark coloration, some with original spots of resin on the surface. Ex-Los Angeles, CA private collection.

Ancient Egypt, Late Period, c. 664 - 525 BC. A jar containing linen bandages from a mummified animal. A label on the side details the acquisition as from Tuna el-Gabel (Hermopolis). "From Tuna el-Gabel - Hermopolis where there are extensive catacombs full of mummified ibis and baboons. Thoth = Ibis headed scribe of the gods - piece of wrapping from a mummified ibis - circa 400-500 B.C." The jar is 3 3/4" (9.5 cm) in length. A curiosity!
