Inca, Peru, c. 1300 - 1500 AD. Exceptionally large Inca blackware bowl. This unusual example is 12-1/2" wide and is decorated with a series of birds in flight. Each handle is executed in the form of a frog. The lustrous slip is highly burnished and shows good mineral deposits. Overall in excellent condition, with a few stabilized stress cracks in the bottom. An impressive piece, with a form reminiscent of classic Greek or Roman ceramics.
