Medieval Europe, c. 12th-16th century AD. Bronze clothing or belt fastener. Intricately decorated with floral elements resembling two hearts. 32 mm (1 1/4"), black patina with earthen deposits. Nice! #AM2016: $99

Medieval Europe, c. 12th-15th century AD. Interesting bronze applique depicting a crowned facing lion's head. Likely was part of a buckle, traces of original iron attachments on back. 33 mm (1 5/16") dia. ex-Dudley Short collection, UK. #AM2019: $125

Medieval England, 14th-15th century AD. Pilgrim holy water flask made of lead. Also known as an ampulla, these lead vessels were brought from pilgrimage places as a souvenir. Some scholars have suggested that many ampullae were used in the annual springtime 'Blessing the Fields' ceremony, in which the Holy Water they contained was sprinkled on the ground to give prayer for a good harvest. Others have suggested that the ampullae were buried along with their contents for a similar purpose. Decorated with a floral element on one side, interesting symbol or monogram on the other. 50 mm (2"), weighs 42 grams. #BL2488x2: $199
