Ancient Greece. Hellenistic period, c. 4th-3rd century BC. Excellent large gold torque. Either an upper-arm band or neck torque. Measures 108x110 mm (about 4 1/4") diameter. A gorgeous piece! Most likely gold leaf hammered onto a base-metal core. The body tapers gracefully from 4mm at the center to about 2 mm at the small rounded points. Found in the Eastern Mediterranean at the remains of an ancient coastal settlement. Ex-European collection. #22474x2: $875

Extremely rare and beautiful! These date from the 1st millenium BC and were part of the famous Bactrian "Golden Treasure" of Afghanistan.
