Collected by Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Gaefe in the 1950's while establishing NATO bases in Turkey and Greece. Roman North Africa, 350 - 420 AD. Large and detailed red ware fragment. One half of decorative wall tile, depicting a lion, ibex, and foot of either a hunter, persecuted Christian, or gladiator within a border of fleurons as seen around the shoulders of red-ware lamps of the same period, the outer edges of the tile with hatches between parallel lines. 4 1/2 in x 2 5/8 in (11.4 x 6.7 cm).
