Ancient Egypt, Roman period, 3rd-4th Century AD. Great terracotta "frog lamp". Kidney-shaped body with sharp carination and arrowhead nozzle. The top decorated with a stylized frog in relief, the base flat with incised ring base. 3" (7.6 cm). The frogs were sacred to the Egyptians as they signaled the coming floods that allowed their crops to prosper. Ex Charles Ryan collection, early 20th Century. Nice! #A132472: $299

Terra-cotta oil lamp, found near Jerusalem. "Slipper-type" lamp with nice raised decorations and interesting incised feature on bottom of spout. ex-Hamedian Galleries, Via Dolorosa, Old City, Jerusalem. 95 mm long. #8706: $175

Byzantine, c. 6th - 7th Century AD. Nice ceramic oil lamp with cross. Ovoid in shape with sharp carination, the shoulders decorated with raised geometric designs, a raised channel enclosing the fill-hole and wick-hole, large raised line on the spout and small tab handle at back. On bottom, a cross within raised ring base. L: 3 7/8” (9.8 cm). #AB2002: $250

Byzantine Empire, 5th-7th century AD. Fantastic clay oil lamp with a beautiful cross. An early Christian lamp measuring 76 mm (2 7/8") long and is perfectly preserved with clear evidence of use in soot around wick hole. Decorated with a very clear cross between wick hole and fill hole, with a wreath around the border of the lamp. Nice type. A local oil lamp found in Israel, purchased by David Hendin in Jerusalem more than 20 years ago from a licensed dealer. Ex-D. Hendin private collection. #AB2009: $425

Ancient Byzantine / Islamic, c. 6th - 7th Century AD. Syro-Palestinian type clay oil lamp. With tall shoulders decorated with vertical striations and a central depressed disk with pellet at center, attached to a channel running to the spout.
